ABILENE, Texas – For the 10th-consecutive match, McMurry University's women's tennis team emerged with a victory, this time taking down Concordia University-Texas, 5-4, at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center. The War Hawks (10-4, 1-0 ASC West) win over the Tornados (3-10, 0-2 ASC West) added to its on-going school record for consecutive matches won.
McMurry got off to a fast start in the team score by taking two of three doubles contests at the Nos 1 and 2 slots. At No. 1 doubles,
Bree Brosig and
Samantha Ritz defeated CTX's Leyla Martinez and Justus Arhus, 8-4. The Brosig-Ritz tandem has a team-best record of 8-4 in pairs play.
McM's No. 2 doubles team of
Chloe Patterson and
Briana Perez were 8-6 winners over the Tornados' Lisette Mata and Hayley Anderson.
In singles play, Patterson was dominant at No.1 by blanking Aarhus, 6-0, 6-0. For Patterson – now 8-5 on the year – it was the second-consecutive shutout of an opponent this week.
Samantha Ritz, a sophomore, continued her juggernaut performance at No. 3 singles, winning for the 11th-consecutive match. Ritz dispatched of Mata, 6-0, 6-1. Ritz improved her personal record to a team-leading 12-2 on the year.
Fellow sophomore
Zayra Gomez, playing No. 4 singles, also reached double-digits in singles wins with a 6-1, 6-4 score over Juliette Garza of CTX. Gomez upped her personal record to 10-3, also having won all 10 consecutively.
