SHREVEPORT, La. – The McMurry University tennis teams both made short work of Centenary College in the respective non-conference matches. The War Hawks men's (3-5) and women's (4-4) squads both earned 9-0 wins over CC, the fourth straight win for the McM women.
The McM men rolled past a short-handed Gents team (which fielded just four players). In doubles,
Carlos Martinez and
Andrew Hallowell won 8-0 at No. 1 doubles.
Antonio Pauda and
Travis Gough won by an identical 8-0 tally at No. 2 doubles, with McMurry winning by default at No. 3.
At the Nos. 1-4 singles bouts, McM's lineup of Gough,
Logan Daniell, Thierry Tchenko and
Zach Miller all won straight-set victories, respectively. Gough, Tchenko and Miller all shut out their Centenary foes by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Daniell won his match 6-1, 6-1.
Xander Smith and Hallowell won by default at the Nos. 5 and 6 slots.
In the women's match, McMurry was able to reach the .500 plateau by defeating the CC Ladies. The only games lost in the match by McM all occurred in doubles, where the War Hawks won all three contests by 8-1 scores.
Bree Brosig and
Samantha Ritz paired at No. 1 doubles, along with
Chloe Patterson and
Briana Perez at No. 2 and
Zayra Gomez and
Neah Garza at No. 3.
In singles, the McMurry lineup – Brosig, Ritz, Gomez,
Symphony Munoz, Perez and Garza – all earned 6-0, 6-0 wins over their Centenary counterparts.
