Road Again Proves Unkind to War Hawks

ALPINE, Texas – McMurry University men's basketball was unable to complete the season sweep over Sul Ross State University, losing 86-58 at the Gallego Center. The War Hawks (8-13, 4-9 ASC) led for the first 3:10 minutes of the game, before the Lobos (12-10, 8-5 ASC) took control the rest of the American Southwest Conference bout.

McM shot 32 percent from the field overall, but got disconnect on its long-distance calls, hitting just 1-of-17 from beyond the arc.  SRSU's veteran roster also showed its experience playing together by amassing 20 assists on its 30 field goals made. Conversely, the War Hawks had six assists as a group.

Both teams collect identical totals of 36 rebounds, with Sul Ross gaining the upper hand for points in the paint, 32-24.  McM's bench did outscore the Lobos' reserves, 27-16.

Junior forward Aaron Gettys had 10 points off the bench. Gettys made good on 5-of-8 shooting from the field. He also grabbed three rebounds in his 20 minutes of court time.

Junior forward LaRandall Scroggins led McM with 12 points, the only other War Hawks to tally double-digit points. Scroggins, who went 4-for-9 from the floor, hit 4-of-6 free throws.

Starting point guard Calvin McGee and reserve Mike Williams Jr. each booked eight points. McGee was 4-of-6 from the field, while Williams Jr. was a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.  Williams Jr. led the War Hawks with five rebounds, as well.

Freshman Darius Watts added seven points and four rebounds. Zacc Carter chipped in five points, with Nate Estrada and Luke Stephenson registering four each.

The loss was the sixth-straight setback for McM. The last five of those losses have all come on the road.
