Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Dave Beyer, McM Sports Information Director

ASC East Leaders Too Much for War Hawks, 82-61

RICHARDSON, Texas – McMurry University men's basketball, the runner-up in the American Southwest Conference West Division, lost to East Division frontrunner University of Texas-Dallas, 82-61, at the UTD Activity Center.  The War Hawks fell to 4-5 overall and 3-2 in the ASC, while the Comets improved to 6-3 and 4-1 in the ASC.

UTD scored the first basket of the game 53 seconds in and never looked back.  McMurry found the going tough in the paint, as UTD's inside game out-scored the War Hawks by a 46-24 margin. That disparity also showed up in the rebounding stats, where UTD had 46 caroms, compared to 28 for McMurry.

McM's bench was productive once again, holding a 39-18 advantage over the Comets reserves.

The War Hawks found no answer for UTD's hot shooting from the floor, hitting at better than 50 percent (33-65). McM made good on 25-of-65 (39 percent) from the field.

Darius Watts topped all McM players in scoring with 15 points. Watts was 6-of-11 overall and 3-of-8 from beyond the arc. He also had four rebounds.

Senior LaRandall Scroggins also had four boards to go along with his 10 points.  Mike Williams Jr. added nine points and a team-leading six rebounds.

Newcomer Colin Taylor booked six points, with Dedrick Berry Jr. and Luke Stephenson with five apiece. Isaac Morena and Shaklur Smith chipped in four and three points, respectively. Zacc Carter, and Aaron Gettys each had two points to round out the War Hawks' scoring.
