ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University's volleyball team battled American Southwest Conference West Division leader University of Mary Hardin-Baylor strong, but in the end dropped a 3-0 decision at Kimbrell Arena. The War Hawks (12-7, 4-5 ASC) lost to the Crusaders (20-2, 10-1 ASC) by set scores of 25-23, 25-22, 27-25.
UMHB got out to a big lead in the first set and then held off a furious charge by McMurry. The War Hawks had their chances in the second and third sets, leading in each, before the Crusaders overcame the deficit to win both.
Jasmine Jones had nine kills to pace McMurry. Jones and made six digs and had four blocks.
Jordyn Burnell added seven kills in 17 attempts – with just one error – for a .353 attack average. Burnell als made 12 digs on the defensive side, as well.
Verlyncia Nelson was credited with nine total blocks (eight assisted).
Khristyn Howard and
Justice McGowan each booked six blocks.
Emarie James had a team-best total of 20 assists. James dug nine balls, had four kills and had four assisted blocks.
Libero
Odalis Rodriguez matched Burnell with 12 digs in the back row. Rodriguez and
Christian Brown each served up a pair of aces.
