BELTON, Texas – McMurry University women's basketball proved to be rude guests – at least on the scoreboard – as it handed the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor its first home loss of the 2016-17 season, 76-73.  The War Hawks (6-13, 2-9 ASC) snapped a six-game skid by virtue of the upset road win over the Crusaders (13-7, 6-5 ASC).
 
UMHB had a perfect 8-0 record in the Mayborn Center, prior to facing the McM team.  The Cru had won 12 straight at home dating back to last season.
 
But the euphoria of the big win for McM was preceded by some anxious moments, no doubt.  In a game where both teams battled tirelessly for 40 minutes – there were eight ties, 11 lead changes and no  double digit leads  – McMurry was facing an eight-point deficit, 69-61, with just 2:58 left on the game clock. But from that point on, the War Hawks turned up the heat on the Cru and began their late run.
 
Led by the tandem of Skyler Reyna and Sham Hunter, McMurry would out-score the hosts the rest of the way, 13-4, with the duo booking 10 of those points between them.  With 18 seconds left on the clock and down three, Hunter buried a long-range bucket to knot matters at 72-72.
 
As UMHB inbounded the ball, Hunter stole the ball from Alicia Blackwell. Hunter fed the ball to Reyna standing outside of the arc. Reyna calmly drained the trey with five seconds remaining to put McM on top, 75-72. 
 
Both teams converted a free throw in the waning seconds for the 76-73 final score.
                                                                                                                                   
Reyna registered her fourth double-double of the season, finishing the afternoon with 20 points and 14 rebounds.  Reyna hit 7-of-15 from the floor (including a pair of treys). She also gave off three assists and made three steals.
 
Hunter hit 8-of-15 from the field on her way to an 18-point game. Hunter had five rebounds, while passing off for three assists and making a team-leading four steals.
 
Freshman forward Rhianna Jones – making her first start of the season – finished with 11 points. Jones made good on 4-of-8 from the floor and registered a game-leading three baskets from long distance. She also had three steals.
 
Haley Welch, a senior, booked nine points and freshman Sarah Doherty seven. Isabel Carrion chipped in five points, London Weilert four and Madison Davis two, to round out the War Hawks' ledger.
