McM Women's Tennis Drops Opener, 8-1

ABILENE, Texas – The McMurry University women's tennis team lost to East Texas Baptist University in its 2017 spring season opener, 8-1, at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center.

The Tigers opened the match by sweeping all three double matches from the War Hawks.  McM veterans Chloe Patterson and Bree Brosig (No. 1 doubles), as well as Samantha Ritz and Zayra Gomez (No. 2 doubles), lost by scores of 8-2 and 8-3, respectively.  At No. 3 doubles, freshman Neah Garza and senior Gabby Camacho – who is playing for the first time since her freshman season – lost a tough 8-6 decision.

McM's lone singles victory came from the sophomore Ritz at No. 3. Ritz dispatched of ETBU's Kaleigh Smith in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

At No. 1 singles, Patterson lost a marathon three-set match to the Tigers' Kate Bramlett.  Patterson, beginning her third year playing the No. 1 position for McM, lost the opening set, 6-0, and then came back to take set two, 6-4. Bramlett won the set three pro-set, 10-4.

ETBU won the other four singles matches in straight sets to secure the 8-1 team win.
