War Hawks Blow Halftime Lead Against Tornados

AUSTIN, Texas – The McMurry University women's basketball team was unable to hold on to a halftime lead, falling at Concordia University-Texas, 66-58, at the Concordia Fieldhouse. The War Hawks (5-13, 1-9 ASC) had bolted out to a 32-25 halftime advantage, after out-scoring the Tornados (12-7, 5-5 ASC), 21-2, in the second quarter alone.

CUTX led after the first quarter, 23-11. But in the second stanza, McM hit 50 percent of its shots (8-16) and, at the same time, took the wind out of the Tornados' by holding the hosts to just 1-of-15 shooting from the floor in that period.

Freshman Skyler Reyna rolled up 10 of her eventual team-leading 17 points in the second period alone. For the night, Reyna hit 5-of-12 from the field and 7-of-9 free throws. She also had a game-high nine rebounds.

After the intermission, Concordia came charging back. CUTX would put up 25 points - and hold the War Hawks to 10 – to lead the visitors, 50-42, heading into the final segment. McM was unable to make up any ground, however, as each team tallied 16 points in the last quarter.

Besides Reyna, senior Haley Welch was the War Hawks' only other double-digit scorer. Welch added 11 points, connecting on 4-of-7 field goals and 3-of-4 from three-point range. She also had five rebounds, two blocks and two steals.

Sham Hunter chipped in eight points and five boards, as well as a game-best five steals. Dakkia Morris and Rhiana Jones each booked seven points. Jones and Morris had four and five rebounds, respectively. Jones made four steals.

Kaymee Howell and Amye Templeton each had three points, with Sarah Doherty scoring two, to round out the War Hawks' points.
