IRVING, Texas – McMurry University suffered its second-straight loss of 2016, dropping a 4-1 road decision at the University of Dallas in a non-conference bout at Crusader Field.
Trailing 3-0 at the intermission, McM tallied its first goal of 2016 off of the foot of sophomore
Victoria Chavez. Chavez, from Lubbock, netted her goal just 41 seconds into the second half – after a handball by UD - to breathe new life into the War Hawks, cutting the margin to 3-1.
But the Crusaders kept applying the pressure with 13 second-half shot attempts. UD took 15 tries in the first stanza. Other than Chavez's shot, McM's only other attempt was by freshman Xochilt Miranda, which was saved by UD's Elena Naccari.
McMurry net-minder Jordyn Gregory turned away 12 of the Crusaders' shots on goal. Gregory was charged with all four goals allowed.
The War Hawks will play their third consecutive road game to open the season on Tuesday, when the team travels to Schreiner University. Kickoff in Kerrville is slated for 3 p.m.
