SHERMAN, Texas – Three second half goals doomed the McMurry University men's soccer team, losing at Austin College, 4-1. The War Hawks fell to 1-3, while the Kangaroos upped their record to 3-1 overall.
AC tallied first, netting a goal in the 20th minute. McM's defense stiffened the balance of the half, with the 1-0 deficit standing until the intermission.
The Kangaroos came out in attack mode in the second half, knocking in goals in the 51st and 53rd minutes to go ahead, 3-0. All three goals were charged to McM staring goalkeeper
Alex Chavez, who had one save.
Francisco Carachure came on in relief of Chavez in the 57th minute. Carachure allowed one goal and had two saves.
The War Hawks got on the scoreboard in the 81st minute. Freshman
Grant Mendell blasted in a cross from
Miguel Esteban Jr. off a free kick, posting his first collegiate goal.
The Kangaroos out-shot McM by a 23-14 margin for the afternoon.
McMurry will host a pair of American Southwest Conference matches this weekend, welcoming University of the Ozarks on Friday (4:30 p.m.) and UT-Tyler o Saturday (7:30 p.m.).
