BROWNWOOD, Texas – McMurry University women's tennis rolled up an 8-1 win over Howard Payne University for the team's second-consecutive victory. The War Hawks improved to 7-9 on the year with the win.
McMurry took a 2-1 lead in the team score after the three doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, the McM team of
Chloe Patterson and
Madison Hathorn defeated HPU's Alex Marlin and Erin McCleer, 9-7. The War Hawks also won at No. 3 doubles, 8-3, where
Bree Brosig and
Savannah McClure toppled Breanna Hunt and Devin Mendelson for the YellowJackets.
McM had little trouble in any of the singles contests, winning all in straight sets and by fairly decisive margins in each. Patterson defeated HPU's Brittony Walker at No. 1 by a 6-1, 6-1 score, with Brosig winning No. 2 singles, 7-5, 6-2 over the YellowJackets' Marlin.
Samantha Ritz, playing No. 3 singles, blitzed Hunt by a 6-0, 6-0 count. No. 4 belonged to McM's
Symphony Munoz, earning a 6-2, 6-3 victory over McCleer from HPU.
Zayra Gomez and Brianna Perez won at Nos. 5 and 6 singles, respectively. Gomez topped Callie Molloy, 6-2, 6-2 and Perez out-dueled HPU's Devin Mendelson, 6-2, 6-0.
