ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University women's tennis claimed a 7-2 win over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center. The War Hawks improved to 9-10 with the victory, having won four of their last five matches.
McM took two of three doubles matches to open the day against them Crusaders. At No. 1 doubles, the McMurry tandem of
Chloe Patterson and
Madison Hathorn defeated UMHB's Tara Pergande and Haley Hicks, 8-1.
After dropping the second doubles bout, McM also won at No. 3 doubles.
Bree Brosig and Savannahe McClure toppled the Crusaders' Sarah Sedory and Hope Nash, 8-3.
The War Hawks would then take five-of-six singles contests to ice the match. Each singles match was decided in straight sets.
McM took the Nos. 1-3, as well as the Nos. 5 and 6, matches. Patterson was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at the No. 1 position.
Brosig – playing No. 2 – won 6-2, 7-5 and
Samantha Ritz took a 6-2, 6-1 score. UMHB got its second point of the day at No. 4 singles.
No. 5 singles belonged to Hathorn in a 6-1, 6-1 contest. Freshman
Zayra Gomez improved her personal record top 13-6 by winning at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-1.
The War Hawks close out the regular season on Saturday at 10 a.m. at home versus Concordia University-Texas.
