BELTON, Texas – McMurry University men's basketball team could not overcome a cold shooting night from the field, dropping a road loss at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at the Mayborn Campus Center.
The War Hawks (3-21) shot slightly better than 27 percent (18-66) for the game. Conversely, the Crusaders (9-15) hit nearly 54 percent (30-56), including a 75-percent effort in the first half alone. McMurry out-rebounded UMHB by a 44-41 margin.
The War Hawks never led, as the Crusaders controlled things from the outset. UMHB led at the half, 57-32 and was ahead by as much as 33 points late in the second half.
Romelo Robinson led the War Hawks scoring with 12 points. Robinson hit 3-of-7 from the floor and was 4-of-6 from the free throw stripe. He also pulled down six rebounds coming off of the McM bench.
Nate Estrada was the only other McMurry player – and only starter – in double figure. Estrada booked 10 points on a 4-fo-11 effort from the floor. LaRandall Sroggins was held to six points, but managed eight rebounds and three assists.
Freshman guard
Calvin McGee led all rebounders with nine caroms.
Blake Cochran added seven points and had five boards.
Zachary Campbell and
Thierry Tchenko each chipped in five points.
The War Hawks will close the season on Saturday afternoon (3 p.m.) at Concordia University-Texas in Austin.
