ABILENE, Texas – The McMurry University men's basketball team was unable to repeat last month's win over crosstown foe Hardin-Simmons University, losing the rematch on the road, 114-72, at the Mabee Complex. The War Hawks (3-20) had defeated the Cowboys (15-8), 93-90, on January 23 at McM.
But for McM, the trip up to Ambler Avenue was controlled by HSU early on. The War Hawks' only lead was during the first minute of the game and HSU held the upper hand for 39 minutes. McMurry trailed at the half, 57-29.
McM sophomore
LaRandall Scroggins led his team with a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds. Scroggins hit 6-of-14 from the floor and 4-of-6 free throws. He also had two assists and two steals in his 34 minutes on the floor.
Junior
Nate Estrada hit for 12 points, with a pair of treys. Estrada also passed off a team-best four assists in just 27 minutes of work.
Freshman
Calvin McGee was the only other War Hawk in double figures. McGee had 11 points, canning 4-of-9 from the floor and 2-of-2 free throws, along with four rebounds.
Gabriel Chacon, who got a start versus the Cowboys, chipped in eight points.
Blake Cochran also had eight coming off of the McM bench.
