VICTORIA, Texas – A first half barrage against the McMurry University women's soccer team, left it with an insurmountable obstacle, falling at the University of Houston-Victoria, 7-1. The War Hawks (1-14) could not answer a five-goal first half by the Jaguars (11-3-1).
UHV had just gone ahead by a 2-0 score with 29:15 left in the first half. But McM took the restart and tallied its first goal in its last six matches, when
Bailey Phelps sent the ball past Jaguars goalie Biana Galindo, making it 2-1 in the 27th minute.
The Jaguars upped their lead to 3-1 in the 31st minute. Then, with less than three minutes remaining until the intermission, UHV netted a pair of goals and upped its advantage to 5-1 heading into the locker room.
Two second-half tallies made it the 7-1 final score.
McM goalkeeper
Jordan Gregory had six saves and was charged with all seven goals.
Simone Heinle added two saves in relief of Gregory.
Phelps' shot was McMurry's lone attempt of the match. Conversely, the Jaguars took a total of 35 shots, with 16 on-goal.
