ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University volleyball had the tables turned on it by Hardin Simmons University, dropping a 3-1 (17-25, 18-25, 25-17, 13-25) decision. Earlier this season, the War Hawks (14-8, 6-5 ASC) had topped the Cowgirls (12-9, 8-4 ASC) at Kimbrell Arena.
Setter
Emarie James had a her sixth match with 20-plus assists in the loss. James had a career-high 28 assists on McM's 45 kills. James also had five digs.
Senior middle blocker
Katy Headrick had 10 kills to pace McMurry and six digs.
Jasmine Jones added nine kills, five digs and three blocks.
Jordyn Burnell notched seven kills , six digs and two blocks.
Freshman
Justice McGowan had six kills, with just one error, in 16 attempts, for a .312 attack average. McGowan was also credited with a match-leading five blocks.
Baylie Barnes also contributed six kills, as well as seven digs, in the loss.
Sophomore libero
Odalis Rodriguez had a team –leading 17 digs.
The Cowgirls hit .310 for the match on its attacks. Conversely, McMurry hit .193. HSU had nine service errors.
HSU remained in second place in the American Southwest Conference West Division with the win. The War Hawks, despite the loss, remained in third.
