Tennis Teams Lose at Nationally-Ranked UT-Tyler

TYLER, Texas – The McMurry University tennis teams both dropped their respective matches to the nationally-ranked University of Texas-Tyler teams on the road Sunday. The War Hawks men's team (2-1) lost 9-0, while the McM women's (1-2) fell by an 8-1 score.

The Patriot men are ranked No. 27 in the ITA/NCAA III pre-season poll and the UTT women No. 36.

McMurry's lone victory of the afternoon came from the women's No. 5 singles slot, where freshman Zayra Gomez improved her singles record to 3-0 with a win over UTT's Nancy Perez. Gomez won the opening set 6-4, but dropped set two, 6-0. In set three, Gomez won by a 10-6 score.

At No. 6 singles, another of McM's newcomers – freshman Briana Perez - lost a three-set decision (6-3, 3-6, 10-6). The War Hawks lost the Nos. 1-4 singles contests in straight sets, as well as dropping all three doubles bouts.

The McM men also ran into a buzz saw on its side. The Patriots swept all six singles matches in straight sets, as well as winning the three doubles contests.
