Cerny's 23 Not Enough in Loss to Concordia-Texas

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University men's basketball senior Chris Cerny scored a career high 23 points, but it was not enough to keep his team from suffering a 103-87 setback at the hands of Concordia University-Texas at Kimbrell Arena.

The loss dropped the War Hawks to 3-16 on the season, while the Tornados improved to 10-8.

In his 31 minutes of action, Cerny connected on 9-of-20 from the floor, 5-of-12 of which came from beyond the three-point arc. Cerny also grabbed five rebounds and made two steals before fouling out late in the second half.

Junior Nate Estrada also had another fine outing for McM head coach Zach Pickelman's team. Estrada finished the night with 18 points and dishing off six assists. Estrada was just 4-of-12 from the floor, but was a sterling 9-of-10 from the free throw stripe.

McMurry's freshman point guard Calvin McGee chipped in nine points, with fellow freshman Cameron Jackson also matching that total.  McGee and Jackson were both perfect from the charity stripe, going 6-of-6 and 5-of-5, respectively.

Aaron Gettys and Zachary Campbell each scored eight points. Gettys corralled six rebounds and had a pair of steals, as well.

Gabe Chacon's six points, Romelo Robinson's four points and two from Blake Cochran rounded out the War Hawks' total.

The CUTX team shot better than 50 percent from the floor in each half, finishing 53.6 percent (30-56) for the game. The Tornados also had a 44-27 advantage on the boards.

McM's defense did force Concordia into 23 turnovers for the game.
