Alvarez-Mendoza's Two Goals Lift Women's Soccer to OT Win

ABILENE, Texas – Julissa Alvarez-Mendoza scored both of McMurry University's goals – including the match winner in overtime – in a 2-1 victory over Louisiana College at Wilford Moore Stadium. The win improved the War Hawks to 2-4-1 overall, while the Wildcats fell to 3-6-0).

It was LC that broke on top first, scoring in the seventh minute of play.  The Wildcats maintained that cushion until the intermission.

In the 74th minute, Alvarez-Mendoza went to work. Taking a picture-perfect feed from teammate Holiday Williams from the left side of the goal, Alvarez-Mendoza trapped the ball in front and then slid the shot past LC goalkeeper Haley Clark to know the match at 1-1.

The aggressive McMurry attack out-shot the Wildcats by a 22-5 margin in the match. However, neither team was able to score in regulation, sending the War Hawks to their third overtime of the season (an a 0-1-1 record in extra segments).

But this time the outcome would end in McMurry's favor. Just 2:33 minutes into the first overtime, Alvarez-Mendoza received the ball from Hannah Way and flicked the ball past Clark to give her team the 2-1 victory.

Alvarexz-Mendoza took seven of her team's shot attempts, with five directly on goal. Williams added five shots and Cristen Lumbreras four.

McM's freshman goalkeeper Simone Heinle had a slow night, facing just two shots and making one save, as the bulk of the match was played in the LC half. Clark had 12 saves for Louisiana College.
