ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University women's soccer allowed a single goal in each half, but it was enough to deal the team a 2-0 setback at the hands of Belhaven University at Wilford Moore Stadium.
The Blazers (1-4-1) scored in the 9th minute, generating a 1-0 halftime cushion, thanks to Ashley Harber's tally off of a corner kick from Laura Quintero. In the 50th minute, Quintero again launched a corner kick, which was headed back in front of the box by Harber, to Dani Craft who converted the shot past War Hawks' (1-4-1) goalkeeper
Simone Heinle.
McM's best opportunity for a score came in the 83rd minute. Senior
Holiday Williams had a one-on-one against Blazer net-minder Aelxis Moreno. Williams slammed a shot, but Moreno slide into the ball for a save to preserve BU's shutout.
Over all, Belhaven held an 18-6 advantage in total shots. Moreno had two saves for the visiting Blazers, while McMurry's Heinle notched eight saves (four in each half). The War Hawks were flagged for being offsides eight times, as the hosts tried to push the tempo.
McMurry will look to get back on the winning track on Saturday (Sept. 26) by hosting Louisiana College. Match time is slated for 2 p.m. at Wilford Moore Stadium.
