ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University men's soccer was unable to derail a red-hot Belhaven University squad, losing by a 4-1 score at Wilford Moore Stadium.
The Blazers improved to 5-1-1 on the year. The War Hawks (0-8) were unable to counter BU's depth, which played 11 more players in the game than did McM.
McMurry found itself out-shot in the match by a 24-5 margin. The Blazers built a 3-0 lead by the intermission and added a single goal in the final 45 minutes.
McMurry's lone goal of the match came, literally, at the last second. Senior
Kyle Riese took a pass from
Martin Ornelas, then brought the ball up the left side and chipped a shot over the head of BU goalkeeper Logan Tassin as the game clock expired for the 4-1 final score.
Riese accounted for two of his team's shot total.
Rafael Lara also had a pair of shots, with
Martin Ornelas adding one.
Austin Long had five saves for McM and was charged with all four goals. BU goalies combined for two saves.
McMurry will next host Louisiana College at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
