ABILENE, Texas – Head volleyball coach
Cammie Petree began her 20th season at the helm of the McMurry University program in fine fashion, as her team rolled to a 3-0 win over Schreiner University at Kimbrell Arena. The War Hawks (1-0) topped the Mountaineers (0-1) by scores of 25-22, 25-18, 25-12.
McM's blockers went to work early, amassing 9 total team blocks, with senior
Audrey Sanders notching seven assisted blocks on her own, as SU had a slender .026 attack average (21 kills, 19 errors, 78 att.). Sanders also contributed eight kills in the win.
Senior returning NCCAA All-American
Catherine Heath led all attackers with 12 kills and a game-high .474 attack percentage. Heath added two blocks and freshman teammate
Jasmine Jones chipped in four block assists of her own.
Senior transfer
Bethany Holub – also making her debut as a War Hawk - had a team-best nine digs, to go along with four kills and two aces.
Morgan Thomas and Jessica also had two aces. In all, the War Hawks served up seven aces on the night.
Thomas booked 17 of McMurry's 32 assists as a squad.
Madison Fatheree had six assists and four digs.
McMurry will next play in the Austin College Invitational this weekend. The War Hawks take on Texas Lutheran and Centenary College on Friday (Sept. 4), before getting a rematch with Schreiner and a bout versus Linfield (Ore.) College on Saturday.
