CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – McMurry University women's soccer battled back from a second-half deficit to forge a 1-1 double-overtime tie at the University of the Ozarks' Hurie Soccer Field. It was the second tie of the season for the War Hawks (1-3-2) and the third for the Eagles (0-5-3).
Neither team scored in the first period of play. McM freshman goalkeeper
Simone Heinle had four saves in the opening segment.
The pace of action ramped up considerably after halftime, as Ozarks took 11 shots and McM six. The Eagles broke on top with a goal in the 57th minute to make it 1-0.
In the 69th minute, McMurry freshman
Heidy Alvarez-Mendoza pulled her team even at 1-1. Alvarez-Mendoza took a pass from
Cristen Lumbreras and drove it past UO's Megan Bradford for the equalizer.
However, that would be the end of the scoring for either team, as the clubs went thru the balance of regulation and then two overtime segments with zeroes on the board. Each team managed one shot in each OT period. In all, Ozarks out-shot McMurry by a 19-9 margin form the match.
Heinle finished the match with 12 saves for the War Hawks.
