ABILENE, Texas – The McMurry women's tennis team extended its current win streak to four matches, knocking off Southwestern University, 7-2, at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center. The War Hawks, ranked No. 14 in the NCAA III West Region poll, improved to 12-3 with the victory.
Southwestern fell to 7-5 on the year.
McM led 2-1 after the hotly-contested doubles matches. The War Hawks won both Nos. 2 and 3 doubles. At No. 2 pairs play, sophomores
Chloe Patterson and
Madison Hathorn improved their team-leading record to 13-2 with an 8-5 win over the Pirates' Kali Rose and Nicole Wilson. At No. 3 doubles,
Bree Brosig and
Gabby Camacho outlasted Virginia Stofer and Maranda Kahl, 8-6.
Five wins out of the six singles matches provided the margin of victory for McMurry. The War Hawks won Nos. 1-4 singles, as well as No. 6, and all in straight sets. Patterson handled things at the No. 1 position with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Julie Swets.
At No. 2, senior
Dana LeMieux dominated Marieke Visser, 6-1, 6-2, with
Jessica Bentley winning at No. 3 singles over Emilie Moeller, 6-2, 6-4. At No. 4, Brosig won her team-leading 14th singles match (14-1), 6-2, 6-4 over Wilson. At No. 6, Camacho took care of SU's Stofer, 7-5, 6-1.
