ABILENE, Texas – Entering today's match, McMurry University women's tennis was ranked No. 13 in the NCAA Division III West Region poll and the University of Texas-Dallas was rated No. 18. However, the gap between the teams looked much larger after the War Hawks (13-3) scored a 9-0 win over the Comets (3-4) at the Seidel –Swagerty Tennis Center.
It was also McM's fifth-consecutive win as a team. The War Hawks lost just three total games in doubles and 12 total games in singles, in which they swept every match in straight sets.
In doubles, winning for McMurry – in order – were
Dana LeMieux and
Jessica Bentley at No. 1,
Chloe Patterson and
Madison Hathorn at No. 2, and
Savannah McClure and
Gabby Camacho at No. 3. For the Patterson/Hathorn duo, the win improved their record to 14-2 as a tandem.
The doubles sweep gave the War Hawks a 3-0 win heading into singles action.
At No. 1 singles, Patterson scored a 6-2, 6-1 win over UTD's Ashwini Kulkarni. The win also gave Patterson a 10-5 personal record in 2015.
No. 2 singles resulted in a 6-0, 6-3 win for LeMieux over Katie Purdum. Bentley followed with her 6-1, 6-0 victory over the Comets' Kelly Reed at No. 3.
Sophomore
Bree Brosig notched her team-leading 15th singles win – against just one loss – by dispatching of Kennedi Rose, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. Brosig's only loss has been to NCAA Division I East Carolina.
Hathorn and Camacho both won easily at the Nos. 5 and 6 slots, respectively. Hathorn topped Michaela Galasy, 6-0, 6-1, while Camacho toppled UTD's Thuy Ho, 6-1, 6-0.
