SHREVEPORT, La. – McMurry University's women's tennis squad won its fifth match of the season, starting its Spring Break trip with a 9-0 win at Centenary College. The War Hawks improved to 5-1 on the year with the victory.
At No. 1 doubles, the McMurry duo of
Jessica Bentley and
Dana LeMieux were 8-4 winners over the Ladies' team of Katy Cornwall and Kaitlyn Alexander.
Chloe Patterson and
Madison Hathorn won an 8-1 count at No. 2 doubles, topping Shelby Ferguson and Lauren Buerlot. No. 3 singles belonged to the War Hawks'
Bree Brosig and
Gabby Camacho, 8-0, over CC's Celia Sobelman and Gemma Zuniga.
At No. 1 singles, McMurry's players all won straight-set victories. At No. 1 singles, Patterson had to work the hardest, taking a 7-5, 6-1 decision over the Ladies' Buerlot.
The third singles match, won by McM's Bentley – 6-0, 6-3 – was the only other contest in which a Centenary player even won a game.
LeMieux, playing No. 2 singles, along with Brosig, Hathorn and Camacho at the Nos. 4-6 positions, all won by identical 6-0, 6-0 counts versus their CC foes.
The War Hawks will continue on to Orland, Fla., where they will play a slate of five matches, beginning with a pair of bouts versus Winona State (Minn.) and St. Ambrose University (Iowa) on Monday (March 9).
