Robinson Goes for 39 in Loss at SWAU

KEENE, Texas -  McMurry University men's basketball wasted another monster effort by senior Connor Robinson, dropping a road tilt at Southwestern Adventist University, 84-78.

It was War Hawks' (5-13) sixth-consecutive loss, all coming on the road. The Knights improved to 5-13.

Robinson was a one-man wrecking crew, scoring 39 points and pulling down seven rebounds. Robinson connected on 11-of-17 shot attempts from the floor and was 17-of-19 from the free throw line, as well. He also had an assist, a block and two steals.  It was his fifth game this season with 30 or more points scored and his 12th-straight game in double digit scoring (15th overall in 2014-15).

McMurry led the entire first half of the game, ahead by as much as 12 points – 28-16 – on a dunk by Alex Lewis with 5:43 left in the first period. McM would carry an eight point, 35-27, lead into the locker room.

The Knights were able to knot matters at 43-43 by out-scoring the War Hawks, 16-8, within the first five minutes of the second period. With five minutes left to play, SWAU took the lead for the first time – and one it would not relinquish – on a trey from Kevin Squarzon (21 points) that made it 65-62.

Hondo Webb also tallied in double figures for McM, netting 13 points on a 4-of-7 night from the floor. Webb also grabbed seven rebounds, made two steals and had a team-high four assists.

Lewis finished with nine points, Gabriel Chacon eight, Thierry Tchenko seven and Cutter Smith two points to round out the War Hawks' scoring.

LaRandall Scroggins' nine rebounds topped McM on the glass.

McM will play Northern New Mexico and Cal State San Marcos next Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, before closing out the year with three-successive home games to close the regular season.
