ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University's men's basketball team found the going rough versus the nation's No.-7 ranked team in NCAA Division II, falling to Tarleton State University, 88-58, in the season's final game at Kimbrell Arena.
The Texans upped their record to 25-2 on the year. The War Hawks drew the curtain on 2014-15 with a 6-17 record.
TSU's shooting line looked like a good commercial for AT&T, connecting regularly on its long-distance attempts. For the game, the Texans were 14-for-35 from beyond the arc, while McM hit 5-of-14 treys.
A three-ball by McMurry's
Thierry Tchenko gave his team a 9-8 lead at the 16:15 mark of the opening period. However, TSU regained the lead a minute later and never looked back the rest of the night.
Despite the loss for McM, the night was one where senior
Connor Robinson secured his spot among the elite players to have donned the Maroon and White. Entering the night, Robinson needed to score just six points to guarantee that he would break the school season record for scoring average, held by Rick Penny at 24.4 points per game in 1974-75.
Robinson quickly took care of that matter by scoring his team's first six points of the game. Robinson would finish the night with a game-high 22 points – hitting 9-of-13 from the field – to close the year with the new season-scoring standard of 25.2 p.p.g. He also averaged 8.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game, as well as shooting better than 62 percent from the field.
Robinson's performance also gave him 16-consecutive games with double figure scoring to close the season, with 20 double-digit games, overall, in 2014-15. It was also his 16th game with 20 or more points scored in a game this season.
Fellow senior
Hondo Webb closed out his two-year career with McM by tallying 11 points, grabbing eight rebounds and giving off four assists. Webb also had two blocked shots.
Freshman
LaRandall Scroggins chipped in nine points and Tchenko finished with seven.
Gabriel Chacon had six points.
TSU's bench out-scored McMurry's by a 36-11 margin, while collecting 36 points in the paint (McM had 20). The War Hawks were out-rebounded 41-22 by the nationally-ranked Texans.
