SHERMAN, Texas – The McMurry University women's tennis team remained unbeaten, winning its second-consecutive road match to open the season by an 8-1 score over Austin College at the Russell Tennis Center.
The War Hawks (2-0) cruised through the doubles matches to open the day. At No. 1 doubles, the sophomore duo of
Chloe Patterson and
Madison Hathorn topped Meghan White and Grace Ortiz of AC, 8-1. McM's No. 2 tandem of Senior
Dana LeMieux and sophomore
Bree Brosig won, 8-3, over Kate Willis and Carlye Lide, while third doubles belonged to the War Hawks' freshman pair of
Gabby Camacho and
Savannah McClure, 8-4, over the Kangaroos' Anamaria Kheveli and Morgan Green.
McMurry won five of six singles matches, as well. Its only setback was at No. 6, where McClure was leading in first-set a tiebreaker, 5-3, but was forced to retire after injuring her knee.
But at the Nos. 1-5 spots, the War Hawks all won in straight sets to pocket wins over the Kangaroos. At No.1 singles, Patterson defeated White, 6-0, 6-2, followed by a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 2 by LeMieux over Willis. Brosig, playing third singles, controlled Ortiz, 6-1, 6-1 and Hathorn shutout Kheveli, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4. Camacho's 6-0, 7-5 win at No. 5 singles over Lide wrapped up War Hawks' afternoon.
