ABILENE, Texas- McMurry University men's basketball could not stop a sizzling shooting game by the University of Texas-Tyler, dropping a 95-66 bout at Kimbrell Arena.
The War Hawks (1-7) saw their losing streak hit five due to the Patriots (5-1) blistering afternoon from the field, shooting at a 53.1 percent clip (34-64). UTT was also 9-for-17 from beyond the arc and converted 18-of-26 free throws. McMurry was held to 35 percent (21-60) from the floor, 7-of-24 from three-point range (29.2 percent) and 17-of-29 free throws.
UTT took control early and led McMurry for nearly 38 minutes of the game. The War Hawks found themselves out-rebounded by a 46-34 count.
McM sophomore
LaRandall Scroggins led his team with 15 points, hitting 4-of-8 from the field and 7-of-8 free throws. Scroggins also hauled in five rebounds.
Shakur Smith was McMurry's only other double-figure scorer with 11 points, draining 3-of-5 treys, in his 10 minutes of floor time. Junior
Nate Estrada chipped in seven points and three assists.
Aaron Gettys,
Blake Cochran,
Cameron Jackson and
Chris Cerny had five points, apiece.
Romelo Robinson led the War Hawks with six rebounds, while scoring four points and passing off for four assists. Freshman
Calvin McGee had a game-leading five assists and five boards.
The War Hawks will next play at NCAA Division II Angelo State University on Monday (Dec. 14) at 7 p.m.
