SAN ANGELO, Texas – McMurry University men's basketball team ran into a buzz saw at NCAA Division II foe Angelo State University, falling by a 115-68 score. The War Hawks fell to 1-8, while the Rams improved to 10-0.
ASU led 53-34 at the half and never looked back, out-scoring McM 62-34 in the second segment.
The youthful War Hawks were dominated inside, where the Rams held a 48-14 advantage. ASU physical advantage was also evident in the rebound totals, where McM had 28 boards compared to 51 by Angelo State.
Nate Estrada led McMurry with 18 points. Estrada hit 4-of-12 from the field, but went 7-of-8 from the free throw stripe. He was also 3-for-7 from beyond the arc.
Thierry Tchenko booked 16 points on a 6-for-14 shooting night from the floor, before fouling out. Tchenko did his damage in just 17 minutes of play, also chipping in three assists.
Freshman
Calvin McGee ad a perfect night shooting, going 3-for-3 from the floor – all from three-point range – and 2-2 from the charity stripe. McGee totaled 11 points and was the only other War Hawk in double figures.
Aaron Gettys and
Gabriel Chacon each tallied six points.
McMurry shot 35 percent from the field (22-63). Conversely, the Rams made good on 54 percent (39-72).
