ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University's women's soccer team scored first, but it was visiting Concordia University-Texas that had would score most, in a 3-1 loss at Wilford Moore Stadium.
Freshman
Hannah Way put the War Hawks (2-6-2) on top in the ninth minute. Way took a pass from
Alexa Ledesma Bear and drilled it past CUTX goalkeeper Kila Hartom to make it 1-0. It was Way's second goal of 2015.
But a little more than seven minutes later, the Tornados would even things out. Kaitlyn Ellis tallied in the 16th minute with what would be the first of her two-consecutive goals in the contest.
The 1-1 score stood until the intermission. In the second half, Ellis put in her second goal, beating McM net-minder
Simone Heinle in the 56th minute to put the Tornados ahead 2-1.
CUTX added some insurance in the 68th minute. Maddison Hoskins picked up a loose ball 25 yards in front of the net, spun around the McM defender and blasted a ball to the far post to make it 3-1.
Heinle had three saves on the afternoon, as CUTX took a total of 15 shots overall. McM had two shot attempts and neither was on-goal.
McMurry will face the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday at 5 p.m., sandwiched between the War Hawks' home football game (vs. Hardin-Simmons) at noon and the men's match against the Tornados following the women's bout.
