Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Dave Beyer, McM Sports Information Director

War Hawks Stung by Yellow Jackets, 2-1

ABILENE, Texas – Holiday Williams scored her team-leading fourth goal of the year, but it was not enough as the McMurry University women's soccer team lost a 2-1 decision to LeTourneau University at Wilford Moore Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets were able to draw first blood in the 27th minute. Raylene Gould took a direct kick from the right side and the ball was headed into the goal by LETU's Stephanie Vana, 1-0.

That score stood until the intermission which – instead of being the traditional 15 minutes – lasted 2 hours and 28 minutes after a storm blew in as the first half expired, causing several lightning delays.

When action finally resumed, the War Hawks were finally able to even the contest. In the 71st minute, Williams took a direct kick from 33 yards out and sailed the ball over the head of LETU goalkeeper Bridey Davis, ricocheting off the underside of the crossbar and into the net to make it 1-1.

A little over 10 minutes later, the Yellow Jackets netted the match-winning goal. It was once again Vana's goal that turned the "W" for LeTourneau, by tallying on a direct kick to make it 2-1 in the 81st minute.

The Yellow Jackets out-shot McM by a 9-2 margin. Erika Orlov had the War Hawks' other shot attempt.

McM goalie Simone Heinle had four saves.

The War Hawks will close out the season at home on Saturday (5 p.m.) versus East Texas Baptist University.
