Volleyball Splits on Day 1 of Henderson State Tourney

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – McMurry volleyball split its Day 1 matches at the Henderson State University Invitational. The War Hawks (4-2) lost their first bout to Ft. Hays State, 3-0 (11-25, 21-25, 24-26) and then bounced back to knock off the host HSU team, 3-1 (25-10, 23-25, 25-13, 25-16), both NCAA Division II teams.
 
In the match versus the host Lady Reddies, McMurry was led by junior outside hitter Kelsey Harkins. Harkins had a match-leading 14 kills and a .258 attack percentage. She shared the team lead in digs with Jessica Cory, as each had 10.
 
Cory also served up four of the War Hawks' 10 service aces in the match. Katy Headrick added three aces.
 
Catherine Heath and senior Kayla Hines had nine and 8 kills, respectively. Hines contributed nine digs and a pair of solo blocks, as well.
 
Jessica Tennis and Morgan Thomas – both newcomers to the McM squad in 2014 – combined for 37 assists (Tennis had 21 and Thomas 16).
 
In the loss to FHSU, Heath had a monster match with 14 kills and a .370 attack percentage. Harkins added five kills.
 
Cory and Tennis made 16 and 12 digs, respectively. Thomas and Tennis passed off for 11 assists, each.
 
The tournament continues on Saturday, with the War Hawks facing Southeastern Oklahoma State University (9 a.m.) and the University of Central Oklahoma (1 p.m.).
