Hernandez Leads War Hawks' Win

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry's men's soccer team dominated Jarvis Christian College for the vast majority of the match, but it took two late second half goals by Matt Hernandez to secure the 2-0 victory at Wilford Moore Stadium. The War Hawks beat the Bulldogs (0-9) for the second-straight day and also swept all three matches of the season series between the schools.

Neither of the teams was able to find the back of the nets in the first half of play, despite McM out-shooting Jarvis by a 12-2 margin in the segment. For the match, McMurry had 22 shots, compared to six by JCC.

It was in the 75th minute of play that Hernandez final broke the scoring drought. Hernandez rifled in a shot from 25 yards in front of the goal and past JCC keeper Jose Lopez to make it 1-0.

Still in a tenuous position, Hernandez gave the War Hawks some breathing room at the 79:58 juncture. Jordan Miller sent a perfect ball toward the front of the goal and Hernandez was on the spot to head the ball in for the 2-0 final tally.

McMurry goalie Ian McCarthy had three saves in registering his first shutout of the season.
