Volleyball Takes Two Victories

LONGVIEW, Texas – McMurry University volleyball won a pair of matches on Saturday, sweeping both Howard Payne University and LeTourneau University, in matches played at Solheim Arena. The wins helped the War Hawks to improve to 8-5 overall.
 
In the day's opening neutral-site match, McMurry swept HPU (25-12, 25-23, 25-14) to keep the Yellow Jackets winless.
 
In the HPU match, McMurry had a .281 attack percentage and held the Yellow Jackets to just .040 attacking success. Junior Catherine Heath led McM with 12 kills without an error, breaking a 17-year old school record for individual attack percentage, with a .857 mark against HPU (the previous record was .818 by Mandy Findley in 1997 versus the University of Dallas).
 
Katy Headrick added seven kills, four service aces and four blocks. Senior Kayla Hines knocked down six kills and made six digs, while Lauren Heathcote came off the War Hawks' bench to post six kills and four blocks.
 
McMurry combined for a total of 33 assists. Morgan Thomas had 14 "helps," Jessica Tennis eight and Jessica Cory five. Cory had a match-leading 19 digs, as well.
 
In the second match victory over LeTourneau, Heath again had double-digit kills with 10. Hines had seven kills, Headrick six, Heathcote six and Kelsey Harkins added five kills.
 
Headrick had five more aces up her sleeve for LeTourneau. Audrey Sanders made five blocks.
 
Thomas and Tennis had 16 and 12 assists, respectively
