Box Score ABILENE, Texas – The 2014 home opener for McMurry's volleyball team did not go as hoped for, falling to a tough University of Dallas team, 3-1. The War Hawks (6-5) lost by scores of 23-25, 25-23, 14-25, 19-25 to the Crusaders (6-5).
Katy Headrick and
Kayla Hines each knocked down 11 kills.
Kelsey Harkins added nine kills and
Lauren Heathcote came off of the McM bench to put down six kills. Harkins also contributed 18 digs and Heathcote had two block assists.
The War Hawks two-setter system of
Morgan Thomas and
Jessica Tennis combined for 37 assists (21 for Thomas and 16 for Tennis).
Jessica Cory had a game-leading 21 digs, while also giving off six assists. Headrick and
Audrey Sanders each had three blocks.
After two tight matches the first two sets, McMurry found itself on the ropes – in terms of attack percentage – the final two. McM hit in negative numbers in set No. 3 (-.027) and had a .128 mark in set four.
McMurry will next face Howard Payne University and LeTourneau University on Saturday (Sept. 20) in Longview at 1 and 3 p.m., respectively.
