Box Score ALPINE, Texas – McMurry volleyball won its second-consecutive match by defeating Concordia University Texas, 3-1, at Sul Ross State's Gallego Center. The win upped the War Hawks' record to 6-4 overall.
After dropping the opening set by a 25-14 score to the Tornados, McMurry went on to take the next three sets by scores of 25-22, 25-15 and 25-20.
McM's 6-foot-and-over trio of
Audrey Sanders,
Catherine Heath and
Katy Headrick had a big day, as each registered double-digit kill totals and accounted for 32 of the War Hawks' 46 kills in the match. Sanders knocked down a career-high 12 kills, while Heath and Headrick each booked 10. All three also had good attack percentages, led by a .304 from Headrick.
The trio also led McM in blocks. Sanders and Headrick made four blocks, with Heath chipping in three. Senior
Kayla Hines also had three blocks, to go along with her seven kills and five digs.
Headrick served up a match-leading five aces, as well.
Jessica Cory and
Kelsey Harkins were solid on the defensive side for McM, making 26 and 21 digs, respectively.
Morgan Thomas had a season-best 26 assists in the victory.
McMurry will play its home opener this coming Tuesday (Sept. 16) versus the University of Dallas. The match will begin at 7 p.m. (note that is an hour later than what was originally scheduled and publicized).
