War Hawks Sweep Past Sul Ross in Volleyball

ALPINE, Texas – McMurry University volleyball faced a familiar face in scoring a 3-0 victory over Sul Ross State University on Friday. The War Hawks (5-4) defeated their American Southwest Conference opponent by scores of 25-21, 25-23 and 25-19, in topping the Lobos (4-6) for the 11th-consecutive meeting.
 
It was the first meeting between the teams since 2011. The last time the Lobos defeated McM was in 2006.
 
Head coach Cammie Petree's team received a good balance in accumulating points on both offense and defense. The War Hawks had a total of 41 kills and a .205 attack percentage, while also tallying six points off of blocks and six more from service aces.
 
Senior Kayla Hines had a match-high 11 kills to go along with a sterling .346 attack average (making just two errors in 26 attempts). Hines also had four digs, two blocks and an ace.
 
Junior Kelsey Harkins contributed eight kills, six digs and two blocks. Audrey Sanders and Catherine Heath each registered six kills, with Sanders also making four blocks. Taylor London added five kills to the McM coffers.
 
Jessica Cory led McM with 17 digs. The War Hawks' setter tandem of Morgan Thomas and Jessica Tennis combined for 33 assists (19 and 14, respectively).
 
McMurry will stay in Alpine and take on Concordia University Texas on Saturday (1 p.m.) in a neutral site match.
