Box Score 2 SHERMAN, Texas – McMurry University's volleyball team had little trouble winning either of its matches on the final day of the Austin College Invitational, dispatching of both Rust College and Dallas Christian College by identical 3-0 scores. The wins improved the War Hawks' record to 3-1 after the season-opening tourney this weekend.
In Saturday's action, McM polished off Rust College by scores of 25-17, 25-12, 25-11. The War Hawks then dispatched of Dallas Christian, 25-15, 25-13, 25-21.
In its first bout of the day versus Rust, sophomore middle blocker
Katy Headrick (Lubbock, Texas/Cooper H.S.) was the story as she set a McMurry school record with 10 service aces in the match. Headrick served seven-consecutive aces to close out the match in the third set. The previous McM match record for aces was nine, accomplished three times (with the most recent occurring in 2007).
Headrick also contributed six kills to the War Hawks' cause.
Junior
Catherine Heath had a match-leading 11 kills.
Audrey Sanders added eight kills and had a .636 attack percentage for the match.
Morgan Thomas had 15 assists in the win over RC.
Against Dallas Christian, it was senior
Kayla Hines powering down nine kills – to go along with a .400 attack percentage – in leading McM to its third win of the young season. Heath and Headrick registered seven and six kills, respectively. Headrick also posted four blocks and three additional aces in the nightcap.
Jessica Cory had a match-high 15 digs, along with two aces. Thomas had 14 assists and five digs, while
Kelsey Harkins solidified the McM defense with seven digs.
