ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University's women's tennis squad came out on the short end of a close non-conference match, falling to Southeastern Oklahoma State University, 5-4, at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center.
The loss was dropped the War Hawks to 0-2 overall on the young season, while SEOSU improved to 3-2.
McMurry jumped ahead, 2-1, after winning at No. 1 doubles and No. 3 doubles.
Lauren Renner and
Shayne Cook teamed up to score the 8-5 win a first doubles.
At No. 3 doubles, it was
Madison Hathorn and Sherri Copenhaver going extra games to earn a 9-7 win.
Freshman
Allie Hawkins got a straight-set win in the books at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-4. SEOSU won in straight sets, as well, in the Nos. 2,3 and 5 matches.
At No. 1 singles, Renner lost her opening set to Ilga Racika-Racko, 7-5. The senior came back to sweep the next two sets by scores of 6-1 and 6-0 for the victory.
Copenhaver and SEOSU's Brittany Tobin split sets at No. 6 singles (6-1, 3-6), but it was Tobin gaining the upper hand in set three (6-3) for the win.
