Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Dave Beyer, McM Sports Information Director

McM Can't Scale the Mountaineers, 60-53.

ABILENE, Texas – Despite another huge game from Connor Robinson, the McMurry University men's basketball team suffered a 60-53 defeat at the hands of Schreiner University at Kimbrell Arena.

Neither team was able to put much daylight between each other. The Mountaineers (4-2) largest lead was eight points, while the War Hawks (2-6) never led by more than five. There were a total of five ties and four lead changes, with the visitors leading for nearly 33 minutes of the game.

Buoyed by Robinson's efforts, McM doubled up on SU for points in the paint (24-12).

Robinson, a senior, had his fourth double-double effort of the season, tallying 27 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Robinson hit 10-of-15 shots from the field, while also passing off for two assists and making one steal.

Robinson was the only member of McM head coach Clif Carroll's squad in double figures. Starter Hondo Webb had seven points and five boards, while Aaron Gettys posted seven points (hitting 2-of-4 from beyond the arc).

McMurry actually out-shot the Mountaineers form the field (44 percent to 38 percent), even making one more field goal (19-18). However, Schreiner drained nine treys and made 15 of 19 free throws tries as a team. Conversely, the War Hawks had just three long-distance shots and 12 charity tosses made.

SU held a 29-27 halftime lead and out-scored McM in the second stanza, as well (31-26). The War Hawks tied the game at 45-45 when Robinson made his first three-point basket of the season on a deft assist from Gabriel Chacon with exactly six minutes left to play.

But that would be as close as the War Hawks would come to the Mountaineers down the stretch.

McMurry will be at home again on Tuesday, hosting the College of Faith at 5 p.m. at Kimbrell Arena.
