Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Dave Beyer, McM Sports Information Director

McMurry Makes Leap of Faith, 85-83

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry men's basketball snapped its six-game skid with an 85-83 hard-fought victory over the College of Faith at Kimbrell Arena. The War Hawks upped their record to 3-6 on the year, while the Warriors fell to 5-8.

Each team's largest lead was nine points in the neck-and-neck battle. The game was tied five times and there were a total of 12 lead changes. While COF held the upper hand for better than 25 minutes of the contest, it was McM that led when it counted most.

A layup by senior Connor Robinson with 1:25 left on the game clock gave McMurry the lead it would not relinquish, 81-80.  The War Hawks would tally the next four points on a layup by Aaron Gettys and a pair of Hondo Webb free throws to push the cushion to 85-80 with just six seconds left.

A last-second three-ball from the Warriors' Mike Campbell (24 points) made it the 85-83 final score.

McMurry freshman Gettys – who has made eight three-pointers in the last three games alone – had a career scoring night with 22 points, heading a cast of five double-digits McM scorers. Gettys hit 9-of-17 from the floor and also made a pair of steals off of the War Hawks' bench.

Robinson had his second double-double in as many nights. Robinson was a perfect 9-for-9 from the field on his way to a 20-point effort, to go along with his game-leading 11 rebounds. It was his fifth double-double game of the season, as well.

A trio of McM players all had season high scoring outings to round out the quintet of double-digit point scorers versus COF. Logan LeDane finished with 13 points, followed by LaRandall Scroggins' 12 and 10 from senior Hondo Webb.

Scroggins and Webb also delivered eight and seven rebounds, respectively. Webb and guard Gabriel Chacon each gave off five assists.

Facing a severe height disadvantage against the Warriors, McMurry used good, old fashioned hard work to beat COF to the boards and tip a 44-28 rebound margin in their favor. McM dominated in bench scoring, 40-8.

Both teams were spot-on shooting for the game. College of Faith hit 52.9 percent (36-68) from the floor, while the War Hawks were at 53.1 percent (34-64).
