Box Score 2 ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University volleyball dropped both of its final pool play matches on Friday, finishing the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Central Region Tournament with an 0-3 mark. The losses also snapped the War Hawks' (21-9) two-year stranglehold on the NCCAA's Central Region crown, as well.
Colorado Christian University – which went 3-0 in pool play – will take on Oklahoma Wesleyan University (at 2-1 pool play mark) in Saturday's championship match at Kimbrell Arena. The winner earns a berth in the NCCAA national championship tournament December 4-6 in Kissimmee, Fla.
In McM's first contest of the day, the team was blanked by Colorado Christian by scores of 25-12, 25-16, 25-8. Versus Oklahoma Wesleyan later in the evening, the War Hawks dropped the first two sets – 25-21 and 25-19 – before bouncing back to win set No. 3, 25-21. But the Eagles took the fourth set, and the match, 25-15.
Sophomore middle blocker
Katy Headrick had eight kills and two blocks to pace the War Hawks' efforts. Headrick hit a sterling .583 for the match. However, the McM team was not as fortunate with a .043 attack percentage as a unit.
Morgan Thomas gave out 10 assists, while
Jessica Tennis had nine assists and eight digs in the loss to the Cougars.
Catherine Heath produced McM's only double-digit kills total of the day against Oklahoma Wesleyan, knocking down 14 attempts. Headrick had nine kills against OKWU, to go along with two digs.
Sophomore
Lauren Heathcote had seven kills and four blocks.
Audrey Sanders had a match-leading seven blocks.
Thomas and Tennis combined for 38 assists. Thomas had 23 of the "helps," while Tennis had 15.
On the defensive side,
Jessica Cory had a match-leading 30 digs.
