Box Score 2 KERRVILLE, Texas – McMurry University's volleyball team became just the eighth squad in the 41-year school history of the program to reach 20 wins in a season, as it swept by both Centenary College and host Schreiner on Day 2 of the Schreiner Tournament. The War Hawks (21-6) went 3-0 in the tourney.
McMurry's first 20-win campaign came in 1994 (22-12), under then-head coach Larry Blackwell. That was followed in 1997 (23-6), 2002 (23-6), 2003 (22-10), 2004 (21-10), 2011 (28-5) and 2012 (25-10), all under current head coach
Cammie Petree.
Petree – who long ago became McM's all-time winningest volleyball coach – improved her personal record to 337-219 in her 19 years at the McMurry helm.
McM topped Centenary convincingly, 25-9, 25-10, 25-11, in the match which gave them win No. 20.
Catherine Heath had 10 kills and four blocks, while teammate
Katy Headrick had six kills and a match-leading eight blocks.
Senior
Kayla Hines added five kills and three blocks.
Audrey Sanders had four kills and three blocks, as well.
Morgan Thomas led McM in both assists (15) and digs (8).
In the day's finale versus Schreiner, the War Hawks had it a little tougher, but still managed a 25-14, 25-14, 25-20 sweep. The team had a .317 attack percentage, thanks to eight kills from Headrick and seven kills, apiece, from Heath and
Kelsey Harkins.
Thomas added 18 more assists to her coffers and
Jessica Cory made 11 digs.
