ABILENE, Texas – McMurry women's tennis notched its first win of the year with an 8-1 win over LeTourneau University at Rose Park.
The War Hawks' (1-1) women's team got three quick points by sweeping doubles play from the Yellowjackets (0-3).
Dana LeMieux and
Chelsea Miller won at No. 1 doubles, followed by
Autumn Patterson and Sheri Haynes at No. 2. Third doubles was not contested by LU, where
Brandy Curry and
Jessica Bentley won by default.
In singles action, No. 1 player
Lauren Renner was defeated by LeTourneau's Sarah Case, 6-0, 6-3. After that, however, McMurry would win the Nos. 2-5 matches in straight sets and win by default at No. 6.
Bentley won a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Nell Spencer at No. 2, while junior transfer
Salitza Abrantes tallied a 6-3, 6-0 win over the Yellowjackets' Shelby May. At No. 4 singles, Curry was a 6-1, 6-0 victory, followed at No. 5 by
Sydney Gonzalez, 6-1, 6-1. Haynes took the default win at No. 6.
