ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University's women's tennis team defeated the University of the Southwest, 9-0, but lost to Western New Mexico University, 7-2, in its Friday Matches at Rose Park.  The War Hawks are now 3-4 on the year.

Against USW, McM started the day by taking all three doubles matches. Lauren Renner and Dana LeMieux won at No. 1 doubles, while the tandem of Jessica Bentley and Brandy Curry to the honors at No. 2.  McMurry won by default at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, winning for McMurry – in order – were: Curry, Autumn Patterson, Salitza Abrantes, Sheri Haynes, Miranda Townsend and Sydney Gonzalez.  All of the wins were in straight sets.

Against a tough Western New Mexico squad, McMurry managed wins from only Curry at No. 4 singles (6-4, 6-0 over Doris Berberic) and at No. 3 doubles.  In the doubles victory, it was Abrantes and Gonzalez teaming up for the 8-6 win.
