ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University's women's tennis team defeated the University of the Southwest, 9-0, but lost to Western New Mexico University, 7-2, in its Friday Matches at Rose Park. The War Hawks are now 3-4 on the year.
Against USW, McM started the day by taking all three doubles matches.
Lauren Renner and
Dana LeMieux won at No. 1 doubles, while the tandem of
Jessica Bentley and
Brandy Curry to the honors at No. 2. McMurry won by default at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, winning for McMurry – in order – were: Curry,
Autumn Patterson,
Salitza Abrantes, Sheri Haynes,
Miranda Townsend and
Sydney Gonzalez. All of the wins were in straight sets.
Against a tough Western New Mexico squad, McMurry managed wins from only Curry at No. 4 singles (6-4, 6-0 over Doris Berberic) and at No. 3 doubles. In the doubles victory, it was Abrantes and Gonzalez teaming up for the 8-6 win.
