ABILENE, Texas – The McMurry University men's soccer program fell 2-0 in its first contest of the season to Concordia University – Texas on Thursday afternoon at Edwards Field in Abilene, Texas.
The Tornados struck first as Pep Rangel took advantage of a turnover in the War Hawks goalie box just 2:43 into the game to put Concordia up 1-0. The teams would go into halftime by the same score.
In the second half, Rangel was again in the right place at the right time as he gathered a deflection in front of an open net to register his second goal of the game and put the Tornados up 2-0. McMurry had a few good chances at the net during the course of the contest but Concordia would hold on to win by the same score.
Rangel was the clear leader for the Tornados in the game, accounting for both goals, and Kolby Graff added one assist. For the War Hawks,
Antoine Freitas, Jr. ,
Ryan Prince, and
Matthew Carroll each were able to get a shot on goal, with Frietas Jr. accumulating two on the day.
The War Hawks will attempt to have a quick turn around, as they play their second home game in two days when they host cross-town rival Hardin-Simmons at Edwards Field tomorrow at 4:30 p.m.
