ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University's women's basketball team jumped ahead early and never looked back in a 105-40 blowout of Sul Ross State at Kimbrell Arena in the regular season finale. The win allowed the War Hawks (18-7, 16-5 ASC) to tie for second place in the American Southwest Conference West Division.
It was the third consecutive victory for McMurry, which heads into next week's ASC tournament with a full head of steam.
McM flexed its defensive muscle early and often, strangling the Lobos' offense at every turn. SRSU had just one field goal made in the first six minutes of the game as McMurry blazed out to a 14-2 advantage that effectively sealed the visitors' fate.
By halftime, McM already had enough points for the victory, leading 56-14.
All 14 players on War Hawk Head Coach Veronica Snow's roster played nine or more minutes in the game, 13 of which scored in the game, as well.
Four McM players scored in double digits, led by sophomore
Keshia Collins game-leading 26 points. Collins notched her sixth double-double of the year by also snaring 10 rebounds. She hit 12-of-125 from the field and was 2-for-3 from beyond the arc. Collins also led all players with five assists and three steals.
It was also Collins' 22nd double-figure games out of 25 contests by McM.
On “Senior Day” for the War Hawks, the team's lone senior added 12 points , grabbed eight rebounds and blocked two shots. Rekeita Thomas' 11 points and 10 off the bench from
Katlyn Tarbet, rounded out the McM scoring leaders.
McMurry shot a red-hot 55 percent from the floor(41-73), while limiting the Lobos to just 23 percent (13-of-57).The taller War Hawks held a decided advantage on the glass, as well, out-rebounding SRSU 56-22.
Sul Ross committed 24 turnovers, leading to 17 McM steals.
