ABILENE, Texas – McMurry's women's tennis team remained unbeaten with a pair of wins on Saturday at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center. The War Hawks, 4-0 on the year, defeated both Schreiner (9-0) and UT-Permian Basin (5-4).
Dana LeMieux had a perfect day playing No. 1 singles. LeMieux defeated Schreiner's Theresa Gaitlin, 6-0, 6-4, and then came back to defeat UTPB foe Breigh Shotwell, 6-2, 6-4.
LeMieux also teamed with
Brandy Curry to win No. 1 doubles in both matches, as well. The tandem defeated Schreiner 8-0 and UTPB 8-5.
Autumn Patterson was the only other War Hawk to get a pair of singles wins. Playing No. 4 versus Schreiner, Patterson defeated Haley Richards, 6-12, 6-3. Against Permian Basin, Patterson played the No. 6 position and won over Tiffany Mitchell, 6-1, 6-4.
Against Schreiner, McM also received singles wins from Sonia Del Heirro at No. 2,
Lacey Krusmark at No. 3, Sydney Gonzales at No. 5 and
Jaime Chitty at No. 6.
The War Hawks swept all three doubles competitions, as well, against SU.
Hilary Stone joined LeMieux and Patterson as singles winners versus UT-Permian Basin, as the teams split the individual matches at three apiece. Stone, playing the No. 5 position, toppled Brittany Farmer, 6-2, 6-3.
That meant the War Hawks need not only the No. 1 doubles point, but also a solid win by Stone and Gonzales at No. 3 doubles – 8-1 – to secure the team victory over UTPB.
